FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CSU Dominguez Hills Student Art Exhibition
Slated for May 14-21 in University Gallery

(Carson, CA)— Works of art ranging from motion graphics and web design to sculpture and paintings, all created by studio art and design majors at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will be featured in the Annual Student Art Exhibition: B.A. Graduates from May 14 to 21 in the University Art Gallery on campus.

The exhibition features the works of 22 art and design majors, the conclusion of four years of their artistic labor. Each artist is represented by several works, which range from multi-media installations to photography, sculptures and paintings. This variety of media and extremely diverse content contribute to a moving and inspiring exhibition. Oil, clay, plaster, film, animation and large scale digital photography are but a few of the materials employed by the artists.

Also on display will be preliminary sketches for a large-scale mural project for the Watts Health Center, coordinated by visual arts professor Gilah Yelin Hirsch and her painting students.

At the exhibition’s opening reception, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, student awards for the 2007-08 year will be handed out. The City of Carson Fine Arts Commission will present the 2008 Student Artist of the Year Award to the student with the best work in the exhibit, as determined by faculty advisors. Several Excellence in Design Awards and the Excellence in Studio Art Award also will be presented. These awards are sponsored by local businesses, including Standard Wire and Cable, RR Donnelly, New Age Electronics Inc., Walser’s Art Supply and Lyon’s Art Supply.

Academic Achievement Award will be handed out, as well, to students who have received honors in the major, and the art student volunteers working with Professor Hirsch on Watts Health Center mural will be recognized during the reception for their participation in the project.

The public is invited to attend the opening reception and is welcome to view the exhibition through May 21. The University Art Gallery, on the main floor of the university’s LaCorte Hall, is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

CSU Dominguez Hills is located at 1000 E. Victoria St., in Carson. LaCorte Hall is on the west side of campus off Toro Center Drive/Tamcliff Street.

Visitor parking is permitted in all campus lots with a valid parking pass. Day passes are $3 and available at the yellow dispensing machines at the perimeter of each campus lot.
