FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CSU Dominguez Hills Selected by U.S. Department of Education to Host “Community Conversations” on Hispanic Educational Issues
Join the conversation on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and help shape the direction of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans

(Carson, CA) –California State University, Dominguez Hills has been selected by the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans to host a “Community Conversation” on Tuesday, Aug. 18, to discuss issues affecting educational success among Hispanic students with White House Initiative Executive Director Juan Sepúlveda.

The special town hall assembly will take place in two sessions – from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. – and will be held in the Loker Student Union Ballroom C on campus. The sessions are open to the public, but RSVPs are requested.

The White House Initiative office is traveling the nation to have these Community Conversations in an effort to help shape the direction of the initiative under the Obama Administration. The information collected from the sessions will serve as the foundation of the new executive order to be signed by President Barack Obama that will govern the office.

Participants in the Community Conversations will be placed into small groups and asked to discuss two questions: 1) How can Latino education be improved? and 2) What should the White House Initiative be doing to spearhead those efforts? Sepúlveda will lead the discussions along with White House Initiative team members. Chancellor Charles Reed and CSU Dominguez Hills President Mildred García will provide opening remarks.

Community members are asked to choose one session only to attend:

First session: 1:30 – 3 p.m.
Second session: 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.

Participation has been very high at other “Community Conversations,” so those who would like to attend must RSVP to (310) 243-3787. Space is limited – first come, first served.

CSU Dominguez Hills is located at 1000 E. Victoria St. in Carson. Parking will be available in Lot 3 off Tamcliff/Toro Center Drive and Victoria Street.
