CSU Super Saturday Helps Parents and Students
Plan Early for College
CSU and local churches come together for college fair

(Long Beach, CA) –What does it take to earn admission to a California State University? Parents and students throughout Southern California will have the opportunity to find out at this year’s California State University Super Saturday College Fair on Saturday, August 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cal State Dominguez Hills in the city of Carson.

At the event, parents and students will have one-on-one time with university representatives, as well as their pick of workshops to attend including: “How to Prepare for College: The Importance of Math; “The Freshman Success – How to Get Off to a Great College Start” and “Educational Tools and Resources for Parents.”

“The benefit of the Super Saturday College Fair is that it brings parents and students together to learn how to navigate the process of obtaining higher education.” said Dr. Barbara Young, CSU African American Initiative consultant.

Now in its third year, CSU Super Saturday is part of the CSU African American Initiative, a partnership with local churches and community organizations across California to get grade school, middle school, and high school African American students excited about going to college. The development of the Super Saturday College Fair is a direct result of the success experienced through CSU Super Sunday, an annual outreach event held each February that brings CSU presidents, trustees and the chancellor to churches throughout California to share with the community information about preparing for college, applying to any of the CSU's 23 campuses and obtaining financial aid.

"The California State University is committed to maintaining this unique relationship with local churches even in the midst of tough budget times and tight resources," said Jorge Haynes, CSU director of external relations. "Events like Super Saturday and Super Sunday are crucial to help families learn how to get to college."
