CSU Dominguez Hills Launches YouTube Channel

(Carson, CA) – Just in time for the fall semester, DHTV, the distance learning broadcast programming service of California State University, Dominguez Hills, has launched www.youtube.com/csudhtv.

The channel is part of the new YouTube EDU (www.youtube.com/edu), a sub-site of YouTube created earlier this year to provide universities with expanded video content on the popular video-sharing web site. CSU Dominguez Hills is one of only a couple hundred universities nationwide – and one of six CSU campuses – currently using the service.

“As we have been from the beginning, the CSUDH distance learning program is at the forefront with a YouTube EDU channel,” said Warren Ashley, director of mediated instruction and distance learning. “We see this site as an added feature of DHTV and a way to reach even more viewers and students.”

All courses streaming live on the DHTV web site, http://dhtv.csudh.edu, and broadcast to over two million homes via cable channels throughout the state will be posted within 24 hours of their initial airing on the CSUDHTV channel on YouTube. One key benefit of viewing the courses on www.youtube.com/csudhtv will be the ability to pause and rewind the lectures. The CSUDHTV YouTube channel will also include other videos produced by the university, as well as link to faculty-produced videos.

CSU Dominguez Hills has one of the largest distance learning program in the state, offering 10 academic degrees and seven certifications either through web-based instruction, video or a combination. Currently through the DHTV web site and cable channels – and now through YouTube – CSU Dominguez Hills broadcasts 13 courses covering a wide range of subjects, from teacher education to theatre, history to psychology. The courses are available free to the general public, but individuals seeking university credit, must enroll in the courses.

YouTube is just one of many social networking sites CSU Dominguez Hills is using to engage students, alumni and the public. The university has an official Facebook page, www.facebook.com/csudominguezhills, Twitter account, www.twitter.com/DominguezHills, MySpace page, www.myspace.com/csudominguezhills, and a number of alumni-run groups on www.linkedin.com.
