Lugo's enthusiasm for her
job as a CLASS tutor landed her the
position of assistant director for
the Gear Up program on campus. Funded
by a six-year $306,120 grant from U.S.
Department of Education, the national
program is a collaboration between
school districts and local universities.
CSUDH students will serve at Carson
schools as tutors and mentors and models
for 1,869 6th graders, in the hope
of increasing retention and encouraging
their young tutees to go to college.
