In a move to make higher education more obtainable to the area’s senior citizens and to make use of any empty classroom seats, CSUDH is offering a seat in almost any class during this spring semester that has a vacant one for only $3.50. In addition, the application form and registration process has been kept simple.

Karen Lugo's enthusiasm for her job as a CLASS tutor landed her the position of assistant director for the Gear Up program on campus. Funded by a six-year $306,120 grant from U.S. Department of Education, the national program is a collaboration between school districts and local universities. CSUDH students will serve at Carson schools as tutors and mentors and models for 1,869 6th graders, in the hope of increasing retention and encouraging their young tutees to go to college.
