Jerry Moore: NSF Awards $191,000 Grant for Undergraduate Research in Peru

After five years of trying, professor of anthropology Jerry Moore has received a $191,000 grant from the National Science Foundation Archaeology Program for research in northern Peru. When asked what worked in acquiring the grant this time, he laughs, “Sheer persistence. Over the last
five years, the competition for these funds has become absolutely fierce. In this last round, 67 proposals were submitted.
Ten will be funded.”

Franklin Strier: Business Ethics and Corporate Governance
Inspire Research

Franklin Strier, professor of accounting and finance, had his article, "Conflicts of Interest in Corporate Governance," published in the December issue of The Journal of Corporate Citizenship. The piece dealt with the ways in which conflicts of interest lead to lapses in business ethics and underscores the work Strier completed last semester in establishing a Web-based Center for the Study of Corporate Governance and Business Ethics.

Margaret Blue: Opening the “Gate” to South Bay Art

Associate professor of political science Margaret Blue is on the event committee for the Los Angeles premiere of the internationally acclaimed film, “Buffalo Boy,” to be held at the historic Warner Grand Theatre on Jan. 28. She serves as co-chair of a reception that evening, honoring the film’s director and screenwriter Nghiem-Minh Nguyen-Vô, as a board member of
Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, which is presenting the film.

University Library: Caroline Bordinaro and Carol Dales Reveal the “Path” to Successful Database Searches

Caroline Bordinaro, reference librarian and library instruction and information literacy coordinator, and Carol Dales, reference and distance learning librarian, presented their research on library database searches at the California Association of Research Libraries Mini-Conference at CSU Fullerton on Dec. 9 and at a California Library Association conference in Pasadena on Nov. 6. Their presentation, “Waldo and The Full-Text: Guiding the path from citation to article” focused on comparison and analyses of 49 library databases at California colleges and universities.

Patrick Guillen: Stepping Up to the Plate for Athletics Top Job

Athletics Director Patrick Guillen, who has been in the acting position at California State University Dominguez Hills since Nov. 1, 2005, has earned the permanent position. The announcement was made Jan. 11 by Boice Bowman, vice president of Student Affairs. Guillen began his new position immediately, replacing Ron Prettyman, who left CSUDH in August 2005 to
take a position as the athletic director at Indiana State University.
