Tonight's Top Story

It would have been easy for Ilse Lujan Hayes to get discouraged after graduating from CSUDH. Married and with a three-year-old daughter, the 29-year-old had aspirations of joining the competitive world of broadcast journalism, but had no experience and only had to look as far as the nightly news to see that most entry-level reporters were at least five years her junior. Four years later, her added dose of life experience not only helped her land her first broadcast job, but has served in her rise through the ranks.

Beth Shibata:
Green, Green Grass of Home

The village of Giverny, known as the home of painter Claude Monet. As the settings of his most famous works, his home and surrounding gardens there were painted by the Impressionist in all its guises year round. Beth Shibata confesses a similar attachment to Madrona Marsh, a nature preserve in one of the busiest sectors of Torrance. Her show, “Selected Reflections of Earth and Sky: Images of The Madrona Marsh Preserve,” will run April 1-30 at the Schauerman Library at El Camino College.
