George Malak: A Small World,
After All

Graduate student George Malak
was born in Alexandria, Egypt, but people often assumed he was Hispanic or Latino and would automatically start speaking
to him in Spanish. Rather than resist it, Malak went with it, becoming fluent in Spanish, then adding French for good measure. He is currently teaching himself Korean and Tagalog.

Annie Tubman: Tough Love

While standing in line at the University Bookstore’s Commencement Fair,
Annie Tubman could easily be mistaken for a proud parent about to purchase cap and gown photos of her graduating offspring. Upon bestowing mistaken congratulations on her accomplished son or daughter, one learns that it is she who is the excited graduate, and cum laude at that.
