Scott Hornbeak: One Good Turn Deserves Another

Scott Hornbeak, program coordinator, CSU Dominguez Hills Orthotics and Prosthetics program, was given the opportunity to repay a good deed done toward his family while stranded
on vacation Santa Rosalia as a boy. With his decades of experience with orthotics and prosthetics, and the facilities at the Ossur Center in Aliso Viejo where CSUDH has many of its classrooms and labs, he was able to fit Santa Rosalia policeman German Alonzo Higuera Lucero with a long-awaited prosthetic arm.

In Memoriam: David Heifetz

David Heifetz, chair and director, Interdisciplinary Studies and the Program for
Adult College Education (PACE), died on May 24, not long after retiring due to health problems. In 2003, Heifetz received the highest honor that is bestowed upon an individual by the county of Los Angeles for providing accessible quality education for county employees. A two-year partnership with CSUDH resulted in 500 county employees receiving their degrees through PACE.

Greg Saks: Strengthening Alumni Ties – Without Always Wearing One

Greg Saks has a great collection of neckties. Conservative but playful,
patterned with motifs of fish or beach chairs, they are usually on his desk rather than around his neck, where the new associate vice president of Development in University Advancement, keeps them ready to be put on at a moment’s notice. His lack of formality belies a hands-on approach that he plans to use in reaching out to CSUDH alumni for support, strengthening their connection to their University as ambassadors for their alma mater.

ROTC: Trojan Battalion Celebrates First Commissioning at CSU Dominguez Hills

A Commissioning Ceremony for the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC)
at CSU Dominguez Hills was held on May 24 in the Sculpture Garden. This was the first such ceremony to be held on the CSUDH campus, which conducts its ROTC program, named the Trojan Battalion, in association with cadres at CSU Long Beach and USC.
