CSUDH faculty and administration are aided in their academic development through the Provost’s Speakers Seminar. This semester’s first guest speaker is Diane Halpern, professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College and former president of the American Psychological Association. Her presentation, “Learning is Not a Spectator Sport: Using the Science of Learning to Transform College Classrooms”
focuses on research and theory in the science of learning and how it translates into classroom practice.

Dominguez Hills Intramurals, the first such sports program on the CSUDH campus, is being launched this fall, offering busy students the opportunity to participate in competitive sports with the commitment of joining an intercollegiate team. 

A new master’s of social work program at California State University, Dominguez Hills will focus on the social service needs particular to south Los Angeles County, a large metropolitan area, which includes a wide range of socially and culturally diverse people. 

O.W. Wilson, professor of political science, and his wife, Edna Domino Wilson have made education the focus of their lives. Having established a similar fund at their alma mater, Southern University in Baton Rouge, the Wilsons have pledged $10,000 in seed money to begin an “organic” scholarship that they hope will grow to help students in need.

With approximately 3,000 vessels arriving annually, the Port of Los Angeles is part of the largest container complex in the United States, an entity with strong links to the College of Business Administration and Public Policy. Partnerships between the Port and CSUDH ensure students a first-hand look at this hub of international trade, with internships ranging from stevedoring and engineering companies to the Coast Guard.
