Committee Named to Search for New Dominguez Hills President

(Nov. 15, 2006- From the CSU Office of the Chancellor) – The California State University Board of Trustees Chair Roberta Achtenberg named the members of the Trustees’ Selection Committee to conduct the search for a new president of the California State University, Dominguez Hills campus to succeed retiring President James E. Lyons Sr. Lyons, who has served as president of Dominguez Hills since 1999, recently announced his plans to retire from the university at the end of the academic year.

Trustee Debra Farar will chair the Trustees’ Committee for the Selection of the President. The other trustee members of the selection committee include Herbert Carter, Raymond Holdsworth and Glen Toney, as well as CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed.

Board policy requires the chair to appoint an advisory group to the trustees’ committee. The Advisory Committee to the Trustees’ Committee for the Selection of the President is composed of representatives of the faculty, staff, students and alumni, as well as a member of the campus advisory board, all of whom are selected by the campus constituent groups. Also on the advisory committee is a vice president or academic dean from the campus, and a president of another CSU campus, both selected by the chancellor. Both committees function as one group.

The first meeting of the search committee is expected to be held in January 2007. The search will be conducted in spring 2007 with a new president anticipated to be selected by the CSU Board of Trustees in May.

CSU Dominguez Hills is the most diverse of the CSU campuses, and according to U.S. News & World Report, one of the most diverse in the west among universities offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This community-based university prides itself on personal service to students, many of whom are first in their family to earn a degree. CSUDH offers 43 undergraduate majors and 23 master’s degrees as well as multiple subject and single-subject teaching credentials.
