Loker Student Union Celebrates Reopening with Ribbon Cutting

The Loker Student Union at CSU Dominguez Hills reopened on Thursday, Jan. 25, with a celebratory ribbon cutting that was attended by the campus community, local dignitaries, and Katherine B. Loker, a longtime friend and supporter of the University. She and her late husband, Donald P. Loker, the facility’s namesakes, were instrumental in establishing the original LSU fund raising campaign in 1968, and her $4 million gift was instrumental to the new expansion.

Meet the New Director of University Communications

“I love to learn from history,” says Brenda Knepper, the new director of university and development communications. Knepper, who is completing her master’s degree in humanities at CSUDH, recognizes the University’s mission and its history of serving an urban community in the wake of the Watts riots of 1965, as communications tools that encourage the public to take another look at the “hidden jewel” of the South Bay.

Business Students Develop Marketing Campaign Through CSUDH/Home Depot Center Collaboration

Storyboards created by Natasa Christodoulidou’s marketing students depict the relationship between the Home Depot Center’s world class sports facility and the world class education available at CSU Dominguez Hills. The assistant professor of business management guided her students in a semester-long project with the goal of developing concepts to be produced as an
advertising campaign for the two entities.

Lifelong Learning for Seniors Series Focuses on the Middle East

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in the College of Extended Education (CEE)
at CSU Dominguez Hills will present a series titled, “History and Cultures of the Middle
East – Connected Continents, Divided Destinies” through its TV and Web simulcast program, OLLIonline. The 14-week course is broadcast on Wednesdays, 1-2 p.m, beginning on Feb. 7.

Award-Winning “Intimate Apparel” Presented by CSUDH Theatre Arts

CSUDH presents “Intimate Apparel,” a story of African Americans in turn-of-the-century New York City and their determination to find love and happiness. Written by Lynn Nottage, the play has won several national
awards, including the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play of 2004.

CSU Dominguez Hills Recognized as National Model for Training Science and Math Teachers

The CSUDH College of Education Science and Mathematics teacher preparation program was identified as a national model by the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. Within the program, CSUDH faculty teach courses on-site and teacher interns from throughout the local districts attend CSUDH classes at Washington Preparatory High School in Los Angeles.

"The Artist Revealed" - National Portrait Show Puts Best Face Forward

“The Artist Revealed,” an exhibition on loan from the Syracuse University Art Collection, opens on Feb. 8 in the University Art Gallery, bringing together paintings, sculpture, and other media that examine artists’ self-portraits as well as their portrayals of other artists, actors, writers and musicians.
