Fall Convocation 2007: President García Shares Her Vision

The 2007 Fall Convocation ushered in the new academic year on August 20 in the University Theatre on campus. The recently arrived president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, Mildred García, was introduced to a nearly 485-seat venue filled with faculty and staff, who attended to meet their new leader. In anticipation of the large crowd, the convocation was webcast
on the Internet for the first time ever by the university’s Center for Mediated Instruction and Distance Learning.

Claudia Hampton Honored: Dominguez Hills Remembers Trustee and Friend of Campus

Claudia H. Hampton, the first African American woman to serve on the California
State University Board of Trustees, was honored last week in a ceremony in James L. Welch Hall at California State University, Dominguez Hills with a commemorative photo of Hampton and a plaque that were unveiled in the Claudia Hampton Hall located on the south side of the building.

Library Groundbreaking: State-of-the-Art Expansion Will Benefit Campus Community

History and community were two major themes at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the $51 million expansion of the California State University, Dominguez Hills library on Monday afternoon. This is the first significant capital improvement of the
Leo F. Cain Library since it was built in 1970 and when complete, the library will consist of a two-building complex poised to meet the educational and technological needs of the campus and its surrounding community.

MLB's Urban Youth Academy Puts Aspiring Major Leaguers in the Game

On August 9, representatives from throughout the 37th congressional district paid tribute to the late Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald at a ceremony held at Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Urban Youth Academy. The state-of-the-art facility was a triumph for Millender-McDonald, who convinced MLB executives that the Compton campus, which served her district, was the ideal place for the academy.
