On Sept. 11, the Loker Student Union Ballroom was filled to capacity as California State University, Dominguez Hills gave a warm welcome to internationally renowned Chicana writer Sandra Cisneros. Visiting the
campus as part of the Second Annual Latino Heritage Month, the author of the critically acclaimed 1983 novel The House on Mango Street, shared her work, wit and hopes for a peaceful world with an audience of students,
faculty, staff and community members, including students from Jordan High School in Long Beach.

Aspiring filmmakers, musicians and graphic artists at California State University,
Dominguez Hills will have more creative tools at their fingertips thanks to the new
equipment and software now available in the Mac computer lab in LaCorte Hall. Twenty
student work stations now feature new Macintosh computers complete with state-of-the-art programs such as Pro Tools sound editing software, Final Cut Studio and Audodesk Maya 8.5, a cutting-edge 3D animation program.

Claudia H. Hampton, the first African American woman to serve on the California
State University Board of Trustees, was honored last week in a ceremony in James L. Welch Hall at California State University, Dominguez Hills with a commemorative photo of Hampton and a plaque that were unveiled in the Claudia Hampton Hall located on the south side of the building.
