| Alumni to Exhibit Works at University Art Gallery
"Diverse Visions," an invitational exhibition featuring 60 works of art in varied
media by 15 Art Department alumni will open on Nov. 14 and continue through Dec. 5
at the California State University, Dominguez Hills University Art Gallery. Included
in the exhibition will be Victoria Almeida (Class of ’92), Paul Carmichael (’76),
Maria Elena Fuster (’86), Joey Garcia (’03), Janice Lloyd Govaerts (’91),
Geoffrey Guerrero (’77), Matt Jackson (’93), Collie Lowe (’75), Edmond Maloney (’89),
Daniel Porras (’05), Vince Ray (’94), Lance Reynolds (’95), Shirley Robinson (’06),
Phil Sato (’74), and Leticia Villa (’87).
Highlighting the alumni exhibit will be Almeida’s luminous and poetic abstractions,
Guerrero’s glowing ceramic plates, Jackson’s complex and intense digital prints,
and Govaerts’ large-scale, fragile ceramic seed pods. Other highlights include
Sato’s graceful maquettes for glass and wood figurative sculptures, and Carmichael’s
luminous abstract paintings.
In conjunction with the opening reception on Nov. 14 in the gallery, a conversation with the
alumni artists will take place beginning at 6 p.m.
The exhibit and related events are sponsored by the Instructionally Related Activities Committee
of the Associated Students, Inc. and the CSU Dominguez Hills Alumni Association.
Admission is free. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and is in
La Corte Hall A-107.
CSU Dominguez Hills is located at 1000 E. Victoria St. in Carson, near the junction of the Harbor,
Artesia and San Diego freeways. Visitor parking permits may be purchased for $3 at the yellow
dispensing machines at the front of each campus lot.
