College of Education Looking to the Future: Visioning Conference Formulates Goals

With news of budget cuts at all levels of education, reports that student success
in California lags behind other states, and achievement gaps along racial lines continue to widen — coupled with pressure at all levels to teach to the test — the future of education might seem grim. But by the end of a two-and-a-half day futures planning conference for the California State University, Dominguez Hills College of Education, a sense of hope filled the room — at least as it relates to how CSUDH COE prepares future educators.

African American History Month at CSUDH: Biblical Scholar Speaks on the Connection between African Americans, Scripture and Social Power

Vincent Wimbush, Ph.D., professor of religion at Claremont Graduate University, will present a lecture on “African Americans, Sacred Texts and the Quest for Social Power” on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Loker Student Union Ballroom on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. The director of Claremont’s Institute for Signifying Scriptures, Wimbush will discuss the construct of African Americans’ self and culture in connection with their use of sacred texts, including the Bible, and the social, cultural and political consequences of that connection.

Loker Student Union: From Living Room to Learning Lab

For Kim Clark, every one of her 15 years on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been a busy one. The last year, however, has been unique for the executive director of the Loker Student Union. January 25 marked one year since the LSU celebrated a grand reopening following a two-year expansion project. Apart from providing a respite from the rigors of academia, Clark has also made the LSU a part of the educational process for Dominguez Hills students.
