CSU Dominguez Hills Receives Visit From WASC Evaluation Team to Assess Educational Effectiveness

The Feb 13-15 Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) site visit and review of educational effectiveness at California State University, Dominguez Hills was pronounced “very successful” by CSUDH President Mildred García. The visit concluded an ongoing campus self-study which has been conducted since WASC’s Capacity Preparatory Review visit in 2006, focusing on four core issues: academic quality, campus change, diversity, and civic engagement.

	Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi and Experts to Address State’s Higher Education Challenges
	On Monday, Feb. 25, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi will bring together a team of leading experts to discuss ideas for addressing the state’s higher education challenges.

Conscientious Objector Agustin Aguayo To Speak at CSU Dominguez Hills

Agustin Aguayo will speak about his decision to seek conscientious objector status, the army’s denial of that status, his decision to go AWOL, and his time in prison after being convicted for desertion on Monday, Feb. 25,
5:30-7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Loker Student Union on campus.His wife, Helga Aguayo, will also speak about her eperiences, and excerpts from a documentary about Arlington West, the temporary war memorial erected every Sunday on the Santa Monica beach, will be shown.

	“The Colored Museum” Opens at Edison Theatre February 22
	The California State University Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre Arts is pleased to present George C. Wolfe’s satirical view of black life, “A Colored Museum.” The third play of the 2007-2008 season opens Feb. 22 and runs through March 2 at the Edison Theatre and is directed by CSU Dominguez Hills alum Jeffery Wright (Class of '04, B.A., Theatre Arts/Speech).

African American History Month at CSUDH: Belize City Mayor to Speak About Realities and Challenges in a Racially Mixed Society
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, California State University, Dominguez Hills will host a lecture on race relations with the mayor of Belize City, Zenaida Victoria Moya at 1 p.m. in the university’s Loker Student Union Ballroom. Mayor Moya’s talk will focus on this unique blending of races and cultures and how this heterogeneous society finds common ground among its races.

Larry Press: Professor of Information Systems Researches Internet in Cuba

Larry Press, professor of information systems, was quoted as an expert source in a broadcast of Public Radio International’s “The World” last October. Press was sought out for his expertise on Internet connectivity in Cuba and to provide insight on President Bush’s comments about providing Internet access and computers for Cuba’s citizens. Press has spent time researching Internet connectivity in Cuba, and reported that the country has the lowest percentage of people using the Internet in the Caribbean.
