Inauguration of President Mildred García Marked by Celebrations and Tributes

The inauguration of Dr. Mildred García as the seventh president of California State University, Dominguez Hills on Friday, May 2, which some remarked was unlike any presidential inauguration they had seen at a university, concluded a week of events showcasing the mission, talent, and commitment to education of the campus
community. The theme, “Transforming Lives: Our Heritage, Our Future,” was brought to life by the efforts of students, faculty, staff and alumni who highlighted the
history of the campus while focusing on the future with a new leader at the helm.

Rod Butler Memorial Concert Honors Late Professor, Establishes Scholarship

The Department of Music at California State University, Dominguez Hills will present a special concert on Saturday, May 10, in celebration of the life of former department chair Rod Butler, who passed away suddenly last November. Featuring musical selections from his fellow faculty members in the music department, students, alumni and friends, the concert will begin at 8 p.m. and take place in the University Theatre. Doors will open at 7:15 p.m.

Model UN Conference
Political Science Students Win Top Honors at Model UN Conference

At WestMUN (Western Collegiate Model United Nations) XVI in Santa Barbara April 10-12, political science students from California State University, Dominguez Hills received two of the top awards, the most given to a university at the conference. Thirteen schools from across the western United States took part in the conference, at which students acting as delegates for various countries researched, debated and negotiated issues currently before the United Nations.

Works of art ranging from motion graphics and web design to sculpture and paintings, all created by studio art and design majors at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will be featured in the “Annual Student Art Exhibition: B.A. Graduates” from May 14 to 21 in the University Art Gallery on campus.

James Oliveira: Life in the Fast Lane

When James Oliveira, a California State University, Dominguez Hills senior, arrived in Japan as an exchange student, he quickly discovered the country had a number of unspoken “rules.” For example, whenever you ride an escalator in Tokyo, the left side is for standing only and the right side is for people who are in a hurry and walking fast. In life, it could be said that this marketing major, who is minoring in Japanese, is always on the right side of the escalator, seizing every opportunity that comes his way.
