CSU Dominguez Hills to Host South Bay Housing Foreclosure Prevention Fair

California State University, Dominguez Hills is partnering with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Interdepartmental Task Force on Non-Traditional Mortgages and the Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services’ Center for Foreclosure Solutions to host the South Bay Housing Foreclosure Prevention Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the Loker Student Union on campus.

Since 1984, the not-for-profit LA Neighborhood Housing Services (LA NHS) has served over 1.5 million families, developed and rehabilitated over 8,200 housing and commercial units, established 160 block clubs, and educated and counseled over 80,000 homebuyers and families.

Recognizing the threat that foreclosure rates pose, the community service organization recently established the Center for Foreclosure Solutions with support from NeighborWorks® America and numerous local businesses and agencies. With this effort LA NHS intends to counsel and educate families, providing appropriate lending and real estate solutions, to help minimize the number of foreclosures in Los Angeles.

There have been many workshops hosted throughout the state and Los Angeles, but the foreclosure prevention fair at CSU Dominguez Hills will be the first of its kind in the South Bay. According to the Governor’s Interdepartmental Task Force on Non-Traditional Mortgages, the South Bay region of Los Angeles County is being hit hard by the mortgage crisis, especially in the coastal communities. The university partnered with LA NHS and others to bring this fair to the area in order to assist local residents threatened with losing their homes.

The fair prevention workshop is free; lenders and banks will not be selling their service. This is an educational fair to prevent and assist those facing foreclosures. Congresswoman Laura Richardson (D-Carson), Assemblyman Warren Furutani (D-55th) and Assemblyman Ted Lieu (D-53rd) are supporting this event.

Space is limited. For reservations or more information, call (213) 381-2862 or e-mail counseling@lanhs.org.
