Graduate Students Take Home Awards at System-wide CSU Student Research Competition


Two graduate students from California State University, Dominguez Hills were winners at the 22nd annual system-wide CSU Student Research Competition held this month at CSU East Bay. Giancarlo Bonora was named outstanding presenter in the biology-graduate division’s first session for his presentation of a study that could have implications in the fight against breast cancer and Chaka Dodson was named runner-up in her session in the graduate-psychology division for research she did on neuro-cognitive dysfunction in HIV-positive men.

James Oliveira: Life in the Fast Lane

When James Oliveira, a California State University, Dominguez Hills senior, arrived in Japan as an exchange student, he quickly discovered the country had a number of unspoken “rules.” For example, whenever you ride an escalator in Tokyo, the left side is for standing only and the right side is for people who are in a hurry and walking fast. In life, it could be said that this marketing major, who is minoring in Japanese, is always on the right side of the escalator, seizing every opportunity that comes his way.

Political Science Students Win Top Honors at Model UN Conference


At WestMUN (Western Collegiate Model United Nations) XVI in Santa Barbara in April, political science students from California State University, Dominguez Hills received two of the top awards, the most given to a university at the conference. Thirteen schools from across the western United States took part in the conference, at which students acting as delegates for various countries researched, debated and negotiated issues currently before the United Nations.
