Statewide Program Works to Keep History in Schools from Becoming a Thing of the Past

A statewide collaboration of school districts and universities, the California History-Social Science Project focuses on increasing student achievement in history and social science through professional development programs for K-16 teachers. The CSU Dominguez Hills campus is partnered with CSU Long Beach to provide teachers in the Long Beach-South Bay region with the latest pedagogies in the fields of history and social science.

	Amer El-Ahraf: Emeritus Professor of Health Sciences Named President of Association of Egyptian American Scholars
	Amer El-Ahraf, emeritus professor of health sciences at California State University, Dominguez Hills, was elected president of the Association of Egyptian American Scholars, an international and interdisciplinary organization whose members include such notable scholars such as Nobel Prize winner Ahmad Zewiel and noted NASA scientist Farouk El-Baz.

A. Marco Turk: Teaching Others to Give Peace a Chance

A. Marco Turk, professor and director of the Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding program was honored this spring with Golden West College’s first Peace Award in recognition of his work in helping to establish the Peace Studies program at the Huntington Beach community college. The certified community and trial court mediator contributed to curriculum design for the program, made recommendations for building its faculty, and has been a featured speaker at the program’s annual conference for the last three years.
