In Memoriam: Katherine B. Loker (1915-2008)

Katherine B. Loker, a longtime friend to California State University, Dominguez Hills who gave generously of her time and money, died at her Oceanside home on June 26 at 92. Loker, along with her husband, was a key advisor to CSU Dominguez Hills when its permanent home was being selected in the 1960s, and she continued to be a staunch supporter of the university until her death.

CSU Dominguez Hills' Accreditation Reaffirmed Through 2018

The accreditation of California State University, Dominguez Hills has been strongly reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), university president Dr. Mildred García informed the campus earlier this week. Tasked with evaluating the effectiveness and quality of public and private schools in the western
United States, WASC conferred its highest accreditation appraisal to CSU Dominguez Hills by granting a 10-year reaffirmation, with an interim report due in five years.

52 Toros Athletes Make Honor Roll
Fifty-Two Toros Earn CSUDH Athletics’ Spring 2008 Honor Roll Recognition

Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer’s Sandy Lloyd concluded her academic legacy by earning another perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester, and was joined by teammate Alyssa Congdon, volleyball’s Tiffany Bull and women’s basketball’s Barbara Houston atop the GPA board as the quartet led a contingent of 52 CSUDH student-athletes who earned at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring 2008 semester.

Nikki Powell: Learning to Promote the L.A. Galaxy

As a communications undergrad at Georgia State University, Nikki Powell learned how her favorite movies were made to appeal to the humanity of audiences. Now a graduate student at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Powell is learning to tell the story of soccer to the world, through her internship as a marketing intern for the L.A. Galaxy. The marketing major compares her past lessons in promoting films to promoting the team, emphasizing its rise since 1996 as one of the inaugural teams of Major League Soccer.

Glen Jimenez: Air Force Reservist Helps Imaginations Soar with Theatre

In his current assignment to the Air Force’s Combined Air and Space Operations Center in Qatar, Master Sgt. Glen Jimenez is the enlisted aide of the Director of Mobility Forces. Being responsible for the daily operations of the office, he prepares briefings, schedules meetings, makes sure all vehicles are in working order and assists the director in any other needs to further the mission. After his 12-hour workday, the theatre arts major is prepares some of his fellow soldiers to present his original one-act plays as entertainment at his base.

Dirk Sciarrotta: Alumnus Wins Second Daytime Emmy for Sound Recording

Dirk Sciarrotta (Class of ’94, B.A., music) won his second Daytime Emmy Award in June at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences 35th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Entertainment Awards Ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York City. The award, which he shares with audio engineer Terry Fountain — the second win in eight nominations — is for Outstanding Achievement in Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
