Fall Convocation 2008: President García Looks Back at Her First Year at CSUDH, Looks Forward to Greater Heights for University

Dr. Mildred García, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, welcomed new and returning faculty and staff to a new semester on Monday, Aug. 25, at the 2008 Fall Convocation. Her address, to a full University Theatre audience focused on campus “points of pride” during her first year at the helm, and challenges and possibilities for the upcoming year.

CSU Dominguez Hills Alumni and Faculty Impact Literacy in Cambodian-American Community

On Aug. 11, California State University, Dominguez Hills alumni Sithea and Richer San and professor of anthropology Susan Needham participated in a presentation by Cambodia Town, Inc. of a $150,000 check to the Mark Twain Branch Library, a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the Cambodia Town area along Anaheim Street in Long Beach.

Faculty Legacy Fund: Emeriti Support Junior Faculty with Dollars and Release Time

The first year of the Faculty Legacy Fund has yielded approximately $240,000 in endowed and regular funds to provide new faculty with the resources to enhance their teaching. Bill Blischke, emeritus professor of sociology, helped establish the fund with his colleagues in the Emeriti Faculty Association with the hope that “emeriti faculty at Dominguez Hills [will] use their assets to support succeeding generations of faculty…in their teaching, research, and professional
development in general.”

Leadership Academy: CSUDH Managers Attend Professional Development Program

The Department of Human Resources Management at California State University, Dominguez Hills presented a six-month executive training program that was completed this summer by 10 faculty
and staff members. Titled “The Leadership Academy,” the twice-monthly sessions were conducted by both on- and off-campus trainers, affording the managers a different way of approaching their jobs and skills to enhance their success.
