The California State University, Dominguez Hills campus is doing its part to get out the vote for the upcoming presidential and general election on Nov. 4 by getting students to register to vote, many for the first time. On Nov. 4, the Carson campus will serve as a regional polling place for the South Bay and campus community.

"Electricidad" Opens in University Theatre
“Electricidad” Opens Theater Season at CSU Dominguez Hills

The California State University Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre Arts is pleased to present the opening play of the 2008-09 season, “Electricidad,” running Oct. 17-26 in the University Theatre on campus. A powerful adaptation by Luis Alfaro of Sophocles' Greek tragedy “Electra,” “Electricidad” is set in East Los Angeles, infused with sly humor and the use of uniquely expressive Spanglish.

Angelica Ceja: Grad Student Helps Make Dreams Come True through Mentoring Freshmen

Angelica Ceja hopes that after completing her University 101 classes, first-time freshmen will be able to successfully navigate through their college years at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The graduate student serves as a mentor for two sections of the course, which is titled "Personal, Social and Intellectual Development" and focuses on grooming students for excellence.

Sciences Distinguished Speaker Series

UC Irvine sociologist Rubén G. Rumbaut was the featured speaker at the California State University, Dominguez Hills College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences Distinguished Speakers Series luncheon on Oct. 10 at the Loker Student Union. The sociologist spoke on the topic of his recent article, “Immigration’s Complexities, Assimilation’s Discontents,” published in the current issue of Contexts.

Mexican Consul General Presents Plans for New Port in Baja California

The Honorable Juan Marcos Gutierrez, the Mexican consul general to Los Angeles, visited California State University, Dominguez Hills on Oct. 7 to speak to students and to participate in a panel discussion in the Loker Student Union on plans to build a mega container port in the Northern Baja California town of Punta Colonet.
