Members of the CSU Dominguez Hills and local community gathered in the University Theatre on Jan. 20 to watch Barack Obama take the oath of office as the 44th President of the United States. The audience, made up of many generations and walks of life, shared its hopes for the new president and the nation.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at California State University, Dominguez Hills is a learning-in-retirement organization for individuals 50-plus years of age who live in the South Bay and surrounding communities This spring, a team of the university’s faculty members will offer the lecture series, “Contemporary Scientific Issues,” instructors addressing emerging issues in the areas of biological, environmental, physical and cognitive studies and how their work is affecting communities both locally and globally.

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre Arts, in association with the Dominguez Bridge Theatre Company, is holding auditions on Tuesday, Feb. 3, and Wednesday Feb. 4, for “Everyman—The Musical: The South Bay Bridge Project,” its final play of the 2008- 009 season. Open to members of the community of all ethnicities and ages, the auditions will take place both days beginning at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre.

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Center for Service Learning, Internships, and Civic Engagement (SLICE), in partnership with local nonprofit agencies, invites the community to the first Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Volunteer Day on Thursday, Feb. 5.
