CBAPP Business Plan Competition Winner Lakesha Harris
College of Business and Public Policy Sponsors Business Plan Competition

The first Business Plan Competition was held by the College of Business and Public Policy at California State University, Dominguez Hills, with student proposals ranging from an executive catering firm to a transitional home for foster and probation youth. Conceived by CBAPP’s Advisory Board and the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Small Business Development and Global Logistics,
the competition was open to all CSU Dominguez Hills students regardless of major. The five winners presented outstanding projects that they are currently involved in or are planning to launch after graduation.

Chance the Gardener: Bonsai Expert Helps to Restore Welch Hall Oasis


When grounds worker Peter Chance was charged with replanting the Welch Hall second floor patio garden at California State University, Dominguez Hills, which previously kept dying due to lack of proper drainage, he turned to his lifelong fascination with the Japanese art of bonsai to remedy the situation. Using a technique where the roots are planted above ground, he and his grounds keeping crew have alleviated the problem.

Fr. Sabato “Sal” Pilato: Education Alumnus to Speak to College-Bound Youth

Father Sabato “Sal” Pilato (Class of ’87, M.A., education administration) is preparing to speak to a group of potential students at California State University, Dominguez Hills at Parochial and Private School Day on Feb. 21, an event that will be hosted by the CSUDH Office of University Outreach and Information Services. As the superintendent for secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, he oversees 50 academies and high schools throughout the three counties of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara.

Franklin Strier: How Credit Ratings Rate


Franklin Strier had his article “Rating the Raters: Conflicts of Interest in the Credit Rating Firms,” published in the Dec. 2008 issue of Business and Society Review. In it, the professor of business law at California State University, Dominguez Hills examines one of the key causes of the sub-prime mortgage crisis and related solutions.
