CSU Dominguez Hills Goes To Church: Super Sunday Event Recruits African American Students

California State University, Dominguez Hills President Mildred García was among CSU presidents and officials who brought the college message to thousands of prospective students and their families during the Fourth Annual CSU Super Sunday in Southern California last Sunday, Feb. 22. President García was invited to speak to the New Philadelphia AME Church in Rancho Dominguez by Pastor Sherman Gordon.

“The Heiress” Reinterprets Henry James’ “Washington Square” For Black History Month

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre Arts is set to stage its third production of the 2008-2009 season, “The Heiress,” which opens Feb. 27 at the Edison Studio Theatre on campus. Set in New York’s Washington Square inside the home of Dr. Austin Sloper, “The Heiress” tells the story of his daughter, a shy and plain young woman who falls in love with a charming fortune hunter. In honor of Black History Month, director Donis Leonard chose to stage the production with a non-traditional cast after researching the life of Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, an African American doctor who was widely known for performing the first successful open heart surgery in the country.

Job and Internship Fair: Employers Looking for College Graduates

The spring Job and Internship Fair on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Mar. 5, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Loker Student Union (LSU). The event, which is co-sponsored by the Office of Student Development and the LSU, offers job information and networking opportunities to Dominguez Hills students, with more than 55 exhibitors from corporations, city, county, state and federal agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

While in rehearsal for his debut concert on Feb. 7 as the new conductor of the Carson-Dominguez Hills Symphony, Hector Salazar (Class of '84, B.A., music performance) took a quick break from the stand to talk about how he chooses the music for his concerts, sharing music with young people, and his hopes for the future of the arts.
