CSU Dominguez Hills Takes Next Steps in Strategic Planning Process

California State University, Dominguez Hills is taking the next steps to shape the vision and strategic plan that will support the university’s commitment to become a “model urban university.” Students, staff, faculty, and community members recently shared their insights and perspectives at a series of Town Halls that took place in the Loker Student Union this past month.With the feedback sessions completed, a committee comprising faculty and staff members, called “synthesizers,” will come together to process the information collected.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program and Hispanic Scholarship Fund Host Bridge Builders Forum at CSU Dominguez Hills


On Saturday, March 28, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), in association with the Gates Millennium Scholars Program, is hosting “Bridge Builders Forum” on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills to address the issue of declining Latino male high school graduation and college enrollment rates. The event is being sponsored by the CSUDH Office of Government and Community Relations.

New Scholarship for CSU Dominguez Hills Students Named in Honor of Yvonne B. Burke

California State University, Dominguez Hills is pleased to announce the establishment of a new scholarship in honor of former Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke, who retired in November 2008 after serving as the Second District representative since 1992. The Yvonne B. Burke Endowed Scholarship Fund was made possible through a $50,000 gift from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Nancy Erbe: Fulbright Specialist Effecting Change in Conflict Resolution Curriculum

Nancy Erbe, associate professor of negotiation, conflict resolution and peace building at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will be speaking at “Shaping Faculty Roles in Times of Change: Leadership for Student Learning,” the annual conference of the American Associate of Colleges and Universities in San Diego in April. She is also on a research team funded by the CSU Office of the Chancellor, researching social justice and CSU curriculum and has just been named by the U.S. State Department as a Fulbright senior specialist in peace and conflict resolution.

Matthew Mutchler: Research on HIV Among Gay Men of Color Provides Insight Into Multicultural Attitudes

Matthew Mutchler, associate professor of sociology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, recently received a two- year National Institutes of Health grant of $270,000 for his research on the relationship between substance abuse and HIV with a focus on young gay African American and Latino men. He says there is a need for recognition of the unique issues that surround substance abuse and HIV in these communities in order to find ways to prevent them.
