Nancy Erbe: Fulbright Specialist Effecting Change in Conflict Resolution Curriculum

Nancy Erbe, associate professor of negotiation, conflict resolution and peace building at California State University, Dominguez Hills, will be speaking at “Shaping Faculty Roles in Times of Change: Leadership for Student Learning,” the annual conference of the American Associate of Colleges and Universities in San Diego in April. She is also on a research team funded by the CSU Office of the Chancellor, researching social justice and CSU curriculum and has just been named by the U.S. State Department as a Fulbright senior specialist in peace and conflict resolution.

Matthew Mutchler
Matthew Mutchler: Research on HIV Among Gay Men of Color Provides Insight Into Multicultural Attitudes

Matthew Mutchler, associate professor of sociology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, recently received a two- year National Institutes of Health grant of $270,000 for his research on the relationship between substance abuse and HIV with a focus on young gay African American and Latino men. He says there is a need for recognition of the unique issues that surround substance abuse and HIV in these communities in order to find ways to prevent them.

Jonathon Grasse: Exploring the Gamelan Ensemble Influence in America

Assistant professor of music Jonathon Grasse presented his paper, “Revisiting Lou Harrison’s Work for American Gamelan Featuring Solo Western Instruments,” as part of a panel on American music at the “Music in the 21st Century: Illuminations and Reflections” symposium held on Feb. 7at San Francisco State University. He also gave the Harrison presentation at the meeting of the Southern California and Hawaii chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology at UCLA later in the month.

Richard Malamud: Tax Expert and Colleague Do Mind the Gap
Richard Malamud: Minding the Tax Gap

Professor of accounting and finance Richard Malamud had his article, “It’s Time to Do Something About the Tax Gap,” recently published in the most recent issue of the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal. The article, which he co-wrote with colleague Richard Parry of California State University, Fullerton, outlines the history of the tax gap and some of the reasons why people do not pay their taxes.
