| CSU Dominguez Hills University Gallery to Exhibit Works of Graduating Seniors
Works of art ranging from motion graphics, giant posters and web design to mixed media assemblage, ceramic sculpture and paintings, all created by 25 California State Univesity Dominguez Hills Studio Art and Design majors, will be featured in the “Annual Student Art Exhibition: B.A. Graduates” from May 11 to 21 in the University Art Gallery on campus.
The exhibition’s opening reception, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, will include an awards ceremony honoring student work. The City of Carson Fine Arts Commission will present the Artist of the Year Award to the student whose work faculty advisers deemed to be the best in the exhibit. Numerous other awards, including Designer of the Year, will also be handed out. The reception and award ceremony are open to the public.
“The exhibition lets the students know their work is important and worthy of displaying to the community,” said Art Department Professor Bernard Baker. “The students also gain valuable practical experience from the process of preparing, designing and installing the exhibit.”
As part of the Art Department curriculum, each graduating art student in Studio Art and Design is required to display and install selected works they produced while at CSUDH. This year, for the first time since 1994, the students have also designed and published a 64-page full color catalogue documenting their works of art.
The University Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and is located in room A-107 on the first floor of LaCorte Hall.
