Los Angeles Dodgers CEO Jamie McCourt will address nearly 500 master’s degree candidates, their families and friends at the California State University, Dominguez Hills Graduate Commencement and Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 21.
Taking place at the Home Depot Center Tennis Stadium on campus, the ceremony begins at 7 p.m.
“We are extremely pleased that Jamie McCourt will be this year’s graduate commencement speaker,” said CSU Dominguez Hills President Mildred García. “As the highest-ranking woman in major league baseball, and speaking on a campus where almost 70 percent of the students are women, I am sure she will inspire our graduates.”
When the McCourt family purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004, Jamie McCourt became vice chairperson. In 2005, she became president of the organization, and this year became CEO. McCourt is currently the highest ranking woman in Major League Baseball. She also serves on the Major League Baseball Enterprises Board of Directors.
Under McCourt’s leadership, the Dodgers have seen record attendance in the past three seasons and twice advanced to the postseason. She has also been instrumental in expanding the franchise’s community efforts, which includes building 50 youth ball fields, awarding more than $100,000 in college scholarships, funding cancer research, and creating initiatives that promote the environment. McCourt’s signature program is DodgersWIN (Women’s Initiatives Network), a community outreach effort designed to bring women closer to the game of baseball and dedicated to empowering women.
An active member of the community, McCourt serves on a number boards and committees, including the executive committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and the boards of the Coalition for Economy and Jobs in Los Angeles (The Los Angeles Coalition), the Los Angeles Business Council, the Los Angeles Sports Council, LA INC, the Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and ThinkCure!, the Honorary Advisory Council of Stand Up to Cancer.
A practicing attorney for 30 years, McCourt spent ten years in commercial real estate development with the family business.
McCourt has a bachelor’s degree in French from Georgetown University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Law, and a Master of Business Administration in management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
