Jim Katzenstein: Management Expert Leads Mission of Health Care and Education

As an adjunct faculty member in the management department at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Jim Katzenstein prepares students to apply classroom theories of organizational development, strategy and management to real world situations. As the director of HealthSpan International, he draws upon 30 years of experience as senior management at companies such as Keebler Foods, the A&P Grocery Company and General Cinema to help him lead the nonprofit in providing health care and education to underserved populations.

Irene Vasquez: Director of World Cultural Studies Discusses Link Between African Americans and Latinos on LA Alliance

Professor and chair of Chicana/o studies Irene Vasquez spoke recently about misconceptions surrounding African American and Latino relations during a history segment of “L.A. Alliance,” a show presented by the Los Angeles nonprofit Diverse Strategies for Organizing. In the episode, Vasquez, the director of World Cultural Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills, gives historical perspectives of the settling of the Americas by Africans and peoples of African descent in in Latin American independence movements.

Jon Hauss: Professor of American Literature Provides Students With the Experience of a Lifetime

In honor of the Class of 2009, Dateline is proud to present a unique "thank you" from Georgia Moten, who received her master's degree in English literature this spring. Her interview of associate professor Jon Hauss, this year's Lyle E. Gibson Distinguished Teacher Award winner, is a testament to the transformative gifts of inspiration and knowledge that CSU Dominguez Hills faculty give to their students, and the committment and ambition of those students as they aspire to emulating their mentors, as Moten hopes to in her own teaching career.

campus and external community who exemplify the event's theme, "Be the Pebble" by making ripples in their achievements,
including education, personal or community action, and the celebration of culture.
