Jim Katzenstein: Management Expert Leads Mission of Health Care and Education

As an adjunct faculty member in the management department at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Jim Katzenstein prepares students to apply classroom theories of organizational development, strategy and management to real world situations. As the director of HealthSpan International, he draws upon 30 years of experience as senior management at companies such as Keebler Foods, the A&P Grocery Company and General Cinema to help him lead the nonprofit in providing health care and education to underserved populations.

Irene Vasquez: Director of World Cultural Studies Discusses Link Between African Americans and Latinos on LA Alliance

Professor and chair of Chicana/o studies Irene Vasquez spoke recently about misconceptions surrounding African American and Latino relations during a history segment of “L.A. Alliance,” a show presented by the Los Angeles nonprofit Diverse Strategies for Organizing. In the episode, Vasquez, the director of World Cultural Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills, gives historical perspectives of the settling of the Americas by Africans and peoples of African descent in in Latin American independence movements.

Photo above: Angela Barron, administrative assistant, Academic Affairs, was recognized with the Outstanding Alumni Award at the 2009 Honors Convocation by Greg Saks, vice president of University Advancement. She was also awarded a $2,000 scholarship by the South Bay Panhellenic Association, through her membership in the CSU Dominguez Hills' chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma.

Barron, who graduated this May (Class of '09, B.A., liberal studies) will begin earning her teaching credential and master's degree in special education this fall at CSU Dominguez Hills.
