Champions Regain Form in 4-0 Thrashing of CS San Marcos



Three days after getting off to a rough start at Grand Canyon to start 2009, the defending national champions regained their form in their home opener against Cal State San Marcos after the raising of their championship flag in a pre-game ceremony, and the result was an inspiring 4-0 win after two goals by senior Andrew Marinez to bring CSUDH to 1-1 on the young season. At halftime, midfielder Scott Mariano and women's soccer player Paige Peel were honored as the inaugural recipients of the JT Minami Memorial Scholarship.

Photo above: The first JT Minami Memorial Scholarship was awarded to two Toros soccer players at the men's home opener on Sept. 22. The men's soccer team dedicated its winning 2008-09 season to their late teammate, who died last year at the age of 25. Minami played with the Toros from 2002 to 2005, making 1st-team NSCAA All-Region and 2nd-team All-CCAA honors during his senior season.
