Gilah Yelin Hirsch: Painter Seeks to Answer “Big Questions”



The work of professor of art Gilah Yelin Hirsch is featured in the exhibit “Big Questions: New Works by Gilah Yelin Hirsch and Elizabeth Bloom,” which is currently at the USC Hillel Gallery through Nov. 8. A companion exhibit of Hirsch’s “Vinosady Series” is also being shown at the Los Angeles campus of Hebrew Union College which is located near the Hillel Gallery.

Scott Morris: State of the Arts

In the face of the state’s budget crisis, Scott Morris is working to maintain the notoriety that the guitar program and music department at California State University, Dominguez Hills earned by hosting the annual conference of the Guitar Foundation of America in 2007. This past Labor Day weekend Sept. 4-6, Morris presented the first Dominguez Hills Guitar Festival and Competition in the University Theatre and LaCorte Hall with the help of international colleagues, fellow performers, and donations of cash prizes, guitars and equipment from corporate sponsors.

When Joyce Johnson was trying to decide what to do in her retirement from California State University, Dominguez Hills, she considered the option of spending her days watching soap operas. Little did she know that in a short time, she herself would be in front of the cameras. The emerita professor of English has discovered her "second act," a career on film and stage.

Doris Ressl: Choreographer Presents Signature Dance Company at CSU Dominguez Hills

When Don Gerth, former president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, wanted to bring publicity to the university during the 1984 Olympics, he offered a portion of the Carson campus to the event chairman Peter Ueberroth, who proposed that a world class cycling venue be built on the Carson campus. After the Olympics, the facility served as a sport and entertainment venue for the Los Angeles community.
