| Music Department Faculty Opens Fall Concert Series with "Night of Chamber Music"
For the first concert of its fall 2009 concert series, the California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Music will present a faculty chamber music concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in the University Theatre.
Department chair Richard Kravchak, on oboe d’amore, and English horn, will be accompanied by guitar studies director Scott Morris on guitar and special guests Peter Yates on apreggione and Buzz Gravelle on mandolin. Yates teaches music at both UCLA and Cal Poly Pomona, and Gravelle is a part-time faculty member at Cal Poly Pomona and founder and director of the Santa Monica Academy of Music.
The evening will feature classical chamber music composed by Georg Philipp Telemman and contemporary pieces by Ben Verdery and Frank Wallace. Also performed will be a composition by former CSUDH music chair Rod Butler, who passed away in 2007, and the world premiere of “Five Scenes for oboe, oboe d’amore, English horn, mandolin and apreggione” by assistant professor of music Jonathon Grasse.
