Video Conferencing Enables Students to Interact with Native Speakers to Learn Ancient Aztec Language

Students have long used vocabulary drills and repetition of phrases to learn foreign languages. However, students in “Mexican Culture and Language” at California State University, Dominguez Hills are learning the ancient Aztec language Nahuatl through a unique collaboration between the Chicana/Chicano studies department, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas in Zacatecas, Mexico.

Association of Political Science Students Serve Up Global Awareness at Bake Sale Fundraiser


Members of the Association of Political Science Students (APSS) at California State University, Dominguez Hills held a bake sale last year to help support the building of a school in Afghanistan. When they were unable to coordinate with their initial contact for a fundraiser this year, they instead reacted to a new crisis at hand, the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana, which killed hundreds in the Philippines last week Senior Nicole Bwrede, who serves as APSS public relations chair, says that she diverted the focus of the fundraiser in order to make fellow students more aware of current events across the globe.

Former U.S. Ambassador and Civil Rights Leader Andrew Young Speaks at CSU Dominguez Hills

On Sept. 20, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and civil rights leader Andrew Young made a speaking appearance at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The colleague and friend of Martin Luther King, Jr. addressed freshmen in a University 101 college success course and students from the Student Support Services program who earlier this year visited the South to explore the historic backdrop of the struggle for civil rights.
