California State University, Dominguez Hills opened its 2009-2010 academic year with a record number of students. As of September 28, CSU Dominguez Hills had 14,483 students enrolled in classes, exceeding last nyear’s enrollment at this time by more than 1,600 students, a nearly 12 percent increase. This is the first time that the university has surpassed 14,000 students in its 49-year history.

The California State University, Dominguez Hills Department of Theatre and Dance is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of its nationally recognized Black Theatre Program with an alumni-based production of August Wilson’s “Jitney” under the direction of Donis Leonard, associate professor of theatre arts. The play runs October 16, 17, 23, 24 at 8 p.m. and October 18 and 25 at 2 p.m. at the University Theatre.

Professor of physics Kenneth Ganezer has secured a research award from the National Science Foundation’s Particle Astrophysics Program. The $330,000 grant will be used to expand the participation of California State University, Dominguez Hills faculty and students in Super-Kamiokande, a nucleon decay and neutrino oscillation experiment that the university has been involved in since 1992, to include a new particle accelerator-based beam project to study neutrino mixing called T2K.
