Title V Grant Awarded to CSU Dominguez Hills for Latino Success Program

California State University, Dominguez Hills has recently received a five-year Title V grant of $2,768,113 from the U.S. Department of Education’s Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Program. The funds will be used to establish a new success program for Latino students, "Encuentro Hacia El Exito” (Encounter to Excellence). Susan Borrego, vice president of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs was the principal investigator on the grant, joined by William Franklin, associate vice president, Student Success Services.

Assemblymember Furutani, CSU Dominguez Hills Host Donation Drive to Benefit American Samoa


On October 12, 55th District Assemblymember Warren T. Furutani (D-South Los Angeles County), along with members of the Asian Pacific Islander Caucus and other local officials, community groups and labor unions, held a press conference at California State University, Dominguez Hills to announce local efforts to assist the islands of American Samoa and Samoa on their road to recovery after the earthquake and tsunami that hit the islands on Sept. 29.

Richard Gordon: Collaboration With LAUSD Sets Inner City High Schoolers on Path to College

Professor of teacher education Richard Gordon has collaborated with the Los Angeles Unified School District to groom ninth graders from Jefferson High School in South Los Angeles for college life. Beginning on Sept. 23 and ending today, JHS students, teachers, counselors and social workers have been visiting California State University, Dominguez Hills for workshops on topics including self-esteem, time management, conflict resolution and looking to the future.

Karen Mason: Psychology Professor Awarded NIH Grant for Groundbreaking Research on African-Americans and HIV/AIDS


Karen Mason, associate professor of psychology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been awarded a three-year grant of $426,000 by the National Institutes of Health to fund her research on ethnic disparities in the psychosocial and neurocognitive predictors of health. The grant is supported by the NIH’s programs for minority research, including the Minority Biomedical Research Support and Support for Continuous Research Excellence programs administered by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
