Association of Political Science Students Serve Up Global Awareness at Bake Sale Fundraiser

Members of the Association of Political Science Students (APSS) at California State University, Dominguez Hills held a bake sale last year to help support the building of a school in Afghanistan. When they were unable to coordinate with their initial contact for a fundraiser this year, they instead reacted to a new crisis at hand, the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana, which killed hundreds in the Philippines last week Senior Nicole Bwrede, who serves as APSS public relations chair, says that she diverted the focus of the fundraiser in order to make fellow students more aware of current events across the globe.

Mitchell says that she was motivated to run for Queen to fulfill her college experience.

“I’m a senior right now and I never really went to high school," says Mitchell. "I left middle school and went straight to college. Homecoming was a high school thing I missed out on."

Asked how she felt waiting for her name to be called, Mitchell said, “I was nervous. When I heard my name I was shocked. I covered my face with my hands because I started tearing up and I thought to myself I don’t want any tears to fall because all my makeup would get messed up. It was one of the best days of my life.”
