Cynthia Johnson: Public Health Nursing Careers on the Rise


Cynthia Johnson, RN, Ed.D., was featured in the September 2 issue of orkingNurse.com in the article “Public Health Nursing.” The professor of nursing at California State niversity, Dominguez Hills says there is a great demand for public health nurses and that there are plenty of students hoping to fill that need. She estimates that about 90 percent of applicants attending quarterly application workshops for the public health nursing program at CSU Dominguez Hills aspire to work for the Los Angeles County health system.

Susan Needham: Anthropologist Helps Create Archive of Cambodian History in Long Beach


Susan Needham, Ph.D., professor and chair of anthropology at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has received a $40,000 grant from the Long Beach Community Foundation for her collaboration with Karen Quintiliani, Ph.D., associate professor of anthropology at CSU Long Beach, and the Historical Society of Long Beach on the Cambodian Community History and Archive Project.

Ana Pitchon: Anthropologist to Participate in Study of Coastal Resources in Puerto Rico


Ana Pitchon, assistant professor of anthropology, has received a SEA Grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, along with colleagues Carlos G. García-Quijano and John J. Poggie from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Rhode Island. Their project, “The Coast's Bailout: Coastal Resource Use, Quality of Life and Resilience in Puerto Rico” will focus on small-scale fishing industries on the island and their potential to fare better in difficult economic times.
