CSU Dominguez Hills Hosts Walk to Benefit Patients and Families Affected by Aplastic Anemia and MDS/Bone Marrow Diseases

Los Angeles patients, their friends and families participated in the Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk for Bone Marrow Failure Diseases on Jan. 16 on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills. The event raised more than $15,000 to benefit the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support to patients with bone marrow failure diseases and their families. Among the participants was the CSU Dominguez Hills NCAA Division II National Champions runner-up women’s soccer team.

Louise Ivers: Art Historian Shows New Photographs of Endangered Long Beach Architecture

Growing up on the East Coast in a house built in 1910, Louise Ivers acquired an affinity for older buildings. So when she moved to Long Beach in the mid-1970s, she was happy that she could purchase a home of similar vintage. However, she was soon to find out that her house was one of an endangered species. With her one-woman show “Endangered Species: Long Beach Architecture,” which runs Feb. 17- March 18 in the Art Gallery at Long Beach City College, the art historian hopes that viewers will take action in trying to save these buildings from the wrecking ball.

Art Department, City of Carson, and Boys and Girls Club Collaborate on After-School Activity for Teens

On a rainy January afternoon, a group of Carson High School students gathered in a classroom to participate in a printmaking class given by Jim Keville, assistant professor of art. The after-school workshop, which runs for three more weeks, was made possible through a collaboration between the University Art Gallery at California State University, Dominguez Hills, the Carson Fine Arts and Historical Commission, and the Boys and Girls Club of Carson.
