Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service Honored at Annual Faculty Awards

The 2010 Academic Affairs Faculty Awards Reception took place on March 10 in the Ballroom of the Loker Student Union to honor faculty at California State University, Dominguez Hills for years of service. Dr. Karen Mason, associate professor of psychology, received the Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Award; Dr. Kate Fawver, associate professor of history, was honored with the Excellence in Service Award; and Dr. Sally Etcheto, professor of music, was given the Lyle E. Gibson Distinguished Teacher Award.

“Welcome Home Jenny Sutter” Explores a Veteran's Return

For many service men and women, returning home isn’t always easy. The dramatic contemporary play “Welcome Home Jenny Sutter,” written by Julie Marie Myatt, follows the return of U.S. Marine Jenny Sutter from Iraq and her struggle to reintegrate into a normal life. Directed by adjunct professor Courtney Elkin Mohler, the production will be performed March 12, 13, and 20 at 8 p.m. and March 14, 20 and 21 at 2 p.m. in the Edison Studio Theatre on campus.

Alex Lim: McNair Scholar Gets the Message Across on Youth and Texting

Alex Lim, a senior at California State University, Dominguez Hills has been assisting Dr. Larry Rosen on his research on parenting in the digital age. Lim presented their findings on the effects of text messaging and learning in the classroom in a poster presentation at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students last November in Phoenix and was recognized for an outstanding presentation in the social and behavioral sciences.

Sigma Pi: Fraternity Promotes a Cure for Breast Cancer, Alcohol Awareness and Campus Beautification Project

During Sigma Pi Fraternity Week at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Feb. 22-26, the Eta-Iota Chapter did more than promote itself, it also used the occasion to raise awareness of three causes: breast cancer awareness, alcohol awareness, and the Altruistic Campus Experience (ACE) Project.
