Presidential Scholars: 2009-10 Cohort Represents CSU Dominguez Hills’ Best and Brightest

This evening, a reception for the 2009-10 Presidential Scholars will be held on the fifth floor of the new South Wing addition to the University Library at California State University, Dominguez Hills. The 24 students, who come from a wide range of disciplines, are supported by the award which is currently valued at more than $22,000 for first-time freshmen and $11,000 for transfer students.

CSU Dominguez Hills Hosts Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Youth Conference


The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute hosted its 2010 “Ready to Lead” Campaign for Latino youth at California State University, Dominguez Hills on April 24. More than 100 youth from schools across the greater Los Angeles area attended the event. Guest speakers included CSU Dominguez Hills alumi and former student government leaders David Gamboa, director of Government and Community Relations at CSU Dominguez Hills and Jose Solache, president of the Lynwood Unified School District. Actor Wilmer Valderrama, who serves as a role model for Latino youth, was the event's keynote speaker.

Partnership Between Labor Studies, University Library, and National Experts Creates Archive of Women in the Building Trades

Last fall, Vivian Price, assistant professor and coordinator of labor studies, and Greg Williams, director of University Archives and Special Collections, received a $25,000 digital start-up grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their project, "New Approaches: Tradeswomen Archives Project". Their vision is to create a virtual museum administered through California State University, Dominguez Hills of photographs, documents, and other historical artifacts from women in the building trades.
