NCAA 2009 Finalists and No. 4-Ranked Toros Picked to Finish Third in CCAA

Returning all 11 starters from last season's NCAA runners-up squad, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team was picked to win the South Division but finish third in the CCAA Tournament behind reigning CCAA Champion Cal State L.A. and perennial power UC San Diego after a preseason poll amongst the league's head coaches.

Guillen is proud of the many achievements of Toro Athletics that have occurred on his watch, including the 2008 Men’s Soccer National Championship, last year’s National Championship appearance by our women’s soccer team, hosting the NCAA Baseball Regional Championship for the at CSU Dominguez Hills, and numerous upgrades to athletic facilities on campus. However, he says that the greatest achievement is the prowess that Toro student-athletes have shown in the classroom as well as on the field.

“What I am most proud of is the academic success of our student-athletes over the past five years having raised their cumulative GPA from 2.36 to 2.91 in that span,” he says. “To see firsthand the impact we are able to make in the lives of not only our student-athletes but also all the students we come in contact with is what keeps me going.”
