Art Department Alumni Return in 50th Anniversary Alumni Art Exhibition
The “50th Anniversary Alumni Art and Design Exhibition,” an invitational exhibition held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration of the founding of California State University, Dominguez Hills, will feature 75 works of art in varied media by more than two dozen alumni from the art and design departments. The exhibit will open on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and continue through Oct. 27 at the University Art Gallery.
“On the 50th anniversary of CSU Dominguez Hills we are so pleased to present dynamic works of art by alumni artists who live and work in the South Bay/Los Angeles area,” said gallery director Kathy Zimmerer. “Long after graduation our alumni artists continue to create art, maintain studios and exhibit. We are very proud of their work in the art community as K-12 teachers, gallery curators, professors, artists, art historians and arts managers.”
Highlighting the alumni exhibit will be the glowing ceramic plates and brilliant oil pastels of Geoff Guerrero (Class of 1977), the intricate silk screen prints of Matt Jackson (’93), Janice Lloyd Govaerts’ (’91) fragile ceramic seed pods, the vigorous abstractions of H.K. Zamani (’86), a delicate bronze rectangular sculpture by Susan Venable (’81), Class of ’77 alumnus Joe Edward Grant’s luminous paintings of houses, and Class of ’87 alumnus Eric Myles’ strong mixed media drawings and collages of monumental African American figures.
Also included will be alumni artists: Victoria Almeida (Class of '92), Christopher Avery (’09), Marisol Benitez (’07), Yvonne Brown (’85), Paul Carmichael (’76), Sonya Edmonds (’07), Ilona Finta (’07), Maria Elena Fuster (’86), Margie Gallo (’05), Eunice Gearhart (’09), André Jackson (’07), Solafa Kurdi (’07), Edmond Maloney (’89), Jose Pina (’09), Daniel Porras (’05), Phyllis Quinn (’08), Lance Reynolds (’95), Shirley Robinson (’06), Nora Tomlinson (’77), Leticia Villa (’87), Consuelo Villalba (’09), Louise Wain (’08), and Mariam Zubin (’07).
