Drulet Bowman and Adriana Bitoun: Director of Advancement Supports Colleague Through Battle with Breast Cancer
In the year that Drulet Bowman has spent successfully battling breast cancer, she has received a lot of support from family, friends, and her co-workers at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Last month, however the development operations coordinator was surprised to learn of a more public declaration of support from her supervisor: Adriana Bitoun, director of advancement services, participated in last month’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Newport Beach and did the 5K fitness walk in Bowman’s honor.

Jennifer Bleidistel: Easter Seals Ambassador Teaches Children in Infant Toddler Center

Unlike most of the staff at the Infant Toddler Center at California State University, Dominguez Hills, teacher assistant Jennifer Bleidistel shares something in common with many of her young charges: She too has a disability. On Oct. 9, she will be participating in Easter Seals' annual Walk With Me event in Irvine as an Easter Seals Ambassador. She will also be videotaped at work in the Infant Toddler Center next week and introduced at the organization’s national convention this November in Chicago. In addition, she will be featured at Easter Seals events across the country as the National Adult Representative for 2011.

Salim Faraji: Professor of Africana Studies Attends Gathering of Scholars of Nubian Studies at British Museum
Salim Faraji, assistant professor of Africana studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills, attended the 12th Annual International Conference for Nubian Studies in August at the British Museum and presented his findings on “Africana Nubiology: Examining Classical Sudanese Traditions in West Africa.”

Jung Sun Park: Professor of Asian Pacific Studies Serving Fellowship in Korea

Jung Sun Park is serving a fellowship at the Academy of Korean Studies in South Korea, conducting research on issues of South Korean social and cultural citizenship. As a complement to her previous research on legal citizenship in Korea, the professor of Asian Pacific studies, is currently working on the social and cultural dimensions of citizenship, which complements her previous research on the legal citizenship of foreign-born Koreans in Korea.
