Kimberly Bohman-Kalaja: Professor of Literature Named Fulbright Scholar

Kimberly Bohman-Kalaja, associate professor of literature in the Humanities External Master of Arts program at California State University, Dominguez Hills, has been named a Fulbright Scholar for 2010-2011. She will spend the spring 2011 semester at the University of Tirana in Tirana, Albania, where she will be lecturing and conducting research on the way in which Albania’s writers are shaping the nation’s identity.

Associate professor of finance Tayyeb Shabbir recently presented a paper titled “Impact on ‘East Asia:’ 1997-98 Asian Crisis vs. 2007-09 Global Financial Crisis” at the annual international conference of the Global Academy of Business and Economic Research in New York in October. He also served as chair for the session, “Global Financial Crisis: Impact and Policy Response.”

Mark Waldrep: Professor of Digital Media Arts Shares Vision of Blu-ray Audio

Mark Waldrep, professor of digital media arts, recently presented at the 129th Audio Engineering Society Convention and the Digital Entertainment Group Blu-Con 2010 Conference in November, and delivered the keynote address at the Conferencia Latinoamericana AES: Audio 3D, in Bogotá, Columbia in October. In addition, Waldrep also served on a panel of experts discussing the potential of Blu-ray technology for high quality audio recordings.

Film of 1910 Air Meet Shown at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

A film of the 1910 Air Meet was one of 14 works shown as part of a program titled, “A Century Ago: The Films of 1910,” at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences last month in Los Angeles. The feature, “Aviation at Los Angeles, Calif.” was a production released by Essanay Films on Feb. 16, 1910. The archival collections at CSU Dominguez Hills were acknowledged during the program and webpages from the university’s site were displayed as part of the presentation.
