Keyoshia Ray: New ASI President Gives the Student Voice to Decisions On-Campus and Beyond

In her freshman year at California State University, Dominguez Hills, Keyoshia Ray was invited to join Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) by then-ASI president Ifeanyi Ebigbo (2006-2008). She jumped at the chance and now says that change is what inspired her to become a leader. “I’m the type of person who says, ‘Don’t talk about it, do something about it,’” says the new ASI president, who took office on July 1. “If you want change, you have to create the change."

Lanie Tumaluian: Hearst Scholar Finds That Life’s Lessons Are the Icing on the Cake

Lanie Tumaluian, a full-time graduate student in the Master’s Entry-level Professional Nursing program at California State University, Dominguez Hills, remembers as a child growing up in the Philippines the trips to the local bakery she took with her mother. Today, she bakes her own cakes to relax and share with friends, and uses cake-making as a metaphor for her own life experiences.

"We sit in on UNV 101 classes and we mentor freshmen," says Orange. "If they need us, we talk to them. It makes you feel like there’s a community, you’re not alone," he says, "and that there are other people besides the faculty that you can depend on."
