Photo above: Decoda Mitchell, senior, computer technology, beams after being elected 2009 Homecoming Queen with David Lopez as King on Oct. 16.

Mitchell says that she was motivated to run for Queen to fulfill her college experience.

“I’m a senior right now and I never really went to high school," says Mitchell. "I left middle school and went straight to college. Homecoming was a high school thing I missed out on."

Asked how she felt waiting for her name to be called, Mitchell said, “I was nervous. When I heard my name I was shocked. I covered my face with my hands because I started tearing up and I thought to myself I don’t want any tears to fall because all my makeup would get messed up. It was one of the best days of my life.”
